Guiding is a diverse field. There are three main categories of guides - those who work at a particular site, those who work in a region and those who work nationally. Within these main categories there are further areas of specialisation for guides - nature, culture and adventure.

All the guides that Drive the Big 5 uses must be qualified. Guides have either a national or a regional guiding license. You have the option to use a guide with a national license which means you could use the same guide throughout your trip - even when driving through different regions of Southern Africa - for example, from the Cape to Natal. Or, you can use a regional guide throughout your visit to one region of Southern Africa.


All guides have a broad knowledge on the history, culture and environmental aspects of Southern Africa which is outside of his particular area of specialisation.
